Monday, August 25th Nanaimo, BC
Adam had reached Hank for a list of contractors, and arranged for a meeting at the new warehouse building, owned by MacDougall Enterprises, in Nanaimo.
After unlocking and opening the cavernous warehouse front door, Adam walked the area, checked the electrical utilities transformer, the telecom links, and the back area that included three large bay doors for trucks. He made a note to arrange the installation of a perimeter fence in the back lot for the new antenna farm of satellite dishes that would be required.
Within a short while the contractors arrived. Adam was impressed that Hank had called each of them personally requesting that they come; he was even more impressed that they had all arranged to be there – undoubtedly to be a part of a MacDougall project. He greeted them in the parking lot where they’d gathered, led them out to the warehouse, and began the meeting.
“Thank you all for coming. My name is Adam Brooks and I have been tasked by Premier Jack Jordan to provide the technical resources that he needs to accelerate his plans for the Province. A large element of that plan is to upgrade the communications infrastructure on the Island. This facility is to be the network control centre for some of the new communications systems. When complete, it will resemble, in many aspects, the CBC Broadcast Centre in Vancouver – a project that some of you are already familiar with since you were involved in that building program. This will be very similar in size and scope, a 30-person compliment of staff and technical support that will work out of this facility on a 24/7 basis.” Adam paused for a moment – the electrical contractor had raised his hand with a question.
“What about Saskatchewan – if they vote Yes – does that change these plans?”
“Good question,” Adam responded. “I guess we all have those questions. The Premier intends to show by example that BC will continue to be a leader among provinces for the benefit of the people. If Saskatchewan were to vote Yes, I think that would make Premier Jordan want this even more. My guess is, it would strengthen his resolve.”
“Well, when do you want us to start, then?”
“Now would be perfect.” Adam replied.
